Some distribution services such as DistroKid require a higher and more expensive subscription level to alter iTunes pricing. Standard pricing for singles under 10 minutes on iTunes is currently 0.99 in the US. Qobuz also has an editorial aspect, with artist profiles, album reviews, news, interviews and more.įor example, to celebrate the Australian launch, there’s a feature on the history of Aussie Hip-Hop, profiling artists like Genesis Owusu, Hilltop Hoods, Seth Sentry and Unlimited Sound. These pricings vary by store, territory and album length, based on what they think is the sweet spot. Though, there’s a little more to the service than just high-fidelity music streaming. For comparison, Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music and Tidal all charge $11.99 per month for their basic plans, while Tidal charges $23.99 per month for its HiFi plan. Its high price tag is a clear indication that Qobuz is specifically targeting serious audiophiles with its service, rather than the general public that Spotify and Apple Music caters to. Qobuz has actually been around since 2007 but has slowly expanded to a number of countries over the years, including the US in 2019, and now Australia and New Zealand in 2021. Positioned as a high-fidelity competitor to Tidal, Qobuz promises an “unparalleled listening experience” and the ”purest sound quality,” available to stream and download in CD quality (or HiFi/HD) or high-resolution studio quality (24-bit, up to 192khz). This is why I was surprised when I received a press release announcing just that, a brand new music streaming service in Australia, Qobuz. If you had asked me back in 2014 before Tidal launched I probably would have said the same thing. The new Qobuz pricing is absolutely fantastic. If you had asked me yesterday, I would have said there was no more room for new music streaming services in Australia. Find out more about your Qobuz subscription and get tips on how to use. And I just think the library and interface is a bit more to my liking, and I don't own any "MQA" gear other than my Roon software (which I believe handles first-unfold for me before sending to my non-MQA dacs). What is Qobuz Everything you need to know about the Qobuz service. I have, on occassion, heard the "watermark" on Tidal that some comment about (example: Yuja Yang's sonata's and etudes), and when I check it out on Qobuz I don't hear that. Qobuz sounds *a little bit* better, to my ears, than Tidal. And November-December and June-August is when I'm home the most and best able to capitalize on it. Qobuz had the ziplock / rich Amazon had a great sound quality, excellent pricing, but limited catalogue, limited gapless playback and the usual chronic. Makes for a giant pile of high-bitrate quality audio at my fingers. It's nice having both, side-by-side and integrated into Roon. I plan to drop it after that, and then probably pick it back up again in the Summer. It’s 299.99 per annum for individuals and 599.99 for the Family package. Studio Sublime packages also include download purchases, with exclusive discounts on hi-res purchases of up to 60. I picked Tidal back up this weekend, to keep through the Holidays. For a no-strings-attached monthly subscription, it’s 24.99 per month for individuals and 44.99 for families. When my year of sublime is up I plan to switch back to Studio for a year, and (maybe) back to Sublime after that if I want to on another purchasing binge. Sublime has been a great way to get great pricing on downloaded purchases. I plan to keep Qobuz long-term (year-round year-over-year), and switch in-and-out of Studio-vs-Sublime.
